AIChE Chapter
AIChE is a professional association of more than 40,000 chemical engineers in 93 countries. Its members work in corporations, universities and government using their knowledge and education to develop safe and useful products for the benefit of society. AIChE's Vision is to provide value as the global leader of the chemical engineering profession, serve as the lifetime center for professional and personal growth and security of chemical engineers, and lead as the foremost catalyst in applying chemical engineering expertise in meeting societal needs.
The TAMU-Qatar AICHE club was founded in the fall of 2005; two years after Texas A&M University established its branch campus in Qatar. Working on becoming a member of the global AIChE network, the mission of the club has been to promote and encourage professional progress among student members. The club has also been acting as a representative for chemical engineering students on campus and has established connections with the oil and gas industry in Qatar. The AIChE-TAMUQ for the first time attended and participated in the AIChE National Conference held in Utah November 2007. In March 2008, the Career and Education Operating Council of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers approved Texas A& M at Qatar’s petition to become an AIChE student chapter, which makes it the newest student chapter in the AIChE family.
Since its foundation, AIChE-TAMUQ has worked as an effective means of communication between the student body and the Chemical Engineering Program. In addition, the chapter has been coordinating a number of activities since its foundation, which include: field trips to local industries, lectures from academia and industry, promotional events for the Chemical Engineering Program, and social events.
